Recently upgraded to W10....Notepad auto opens at start up. Can any one tell me in simple terms how to prevent this.
Have checked with YouTube tutorials and would appear not an uncommon problems but find the videos on removal unclear.

If you have Ccleaner, (if not I recommend it) then goto Tools, Startup, highlight and disable it. One slight prob. I do not have notebook on my PC so am assuming it shows up. Alternatively use Revo uninstaller (free). Or look up how to use Reg Editor.

Many thanks Bazzra..tried all that. Seems to be hidden in some rogue file. Research on the internet would make it a fairly common problem..that said the tutorials are hard to follow. Search for Notepad as an actual programme just brings up the same page as at start up and not the file location.

Not experienced the problem, had Win10 only for a short time before reverting to Win 7, this was the easiest to follow tutorial I could find, hope it helps ☺
Would probably create a "restore point" before trying it mind you, depending on your level of knowledge.

Hi Streets
If I could return to Rededit. This would allow you to delete Notepad. I have just done this on my system.
Another tack.
Right click Start, Computer Management, Task Scheduler, Scan or look down to Active Tasks and Notepad should/may be there. Right click to change state ie disable or stop it running.
Hope this helps.

Hi folks, tried everything suggested and the blessed thing remains. Trawling through YouTube tutorial to see if the answer lies therein.
Cannot find any trace of'Notepad' in my system other than this blessed aotostart pop up which has the audacity to tell me I have been denied admission to boot.,
Removed every concieveable programme from start up menu apart from AV and still the beggar appears. :(

Just wondering if it's perhaps something to do with the W10 'fast start' option?

Can you shut it down completely and remove the battery, then with battery removed, press and hold the power button.

Then reboot ...........

The words straws and clutching are however coming to mind :(

Have to report that I have tried everything bar the last suggestion, which with a PC is not so easy. The web and You tube is full of remedies but none have worked in my case. I have even taken everything including the AV out of the start programme and the dam thing is still there on reboot. Even a restore does not work.
Will just have to keep trying various methods
many thanks for all the suggested remedies..greatly appreciated.

As you have only recently upgraded to W10 (and therefore have everything backed up) here is another straw to clutch at.
Do a clean install of W10. easy to do and lots of info available.
A clean install where you download a complete system to say a thumb drive does not hold any info from the system supplier but only W10 including all the latest updates so there is no need for hours of waiting. The same thumb drive can be used for different systems. You can select either for 'This machine' or 'another machine'.

for info.

Bazzra
Your link doesn't work :(
although I suspect that your advice is the best way to go.

EDIT - Several links to a 'clean install' here

If you do as suggested, it may be prudent to install this
https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/
The free version is fine
It saves your 'CD Key' for all programs ............. ironically for you, in 'Notepad'!!

I try and use Microsoft links where possible. Yet another link for 'Media Creation Tool'

Just a thought. You have never said what 'Notepad' it is. There are quite a few versions. And it does not show in Register. Very strange. Hope you get it sorted.
