I have been informed, via a solicitor, that the executors of a will must reside in Cyprus for a period of 6 months. This must be difficult if ,for example ,they are family, friends, living in UK. Can this be correct?
No - this isn't correct - the lawyer just wants to act as your executor!
If you do have your lawyer acting as your executor and handling the probate, agree their fees for the work involved before hand and get there written into your Will.

It is easier if an Executor does reside in Cyprus in order to deal with whatever has to be done here but not necessary and certainly lawyers should be avoided due to their fee structure.
We both live here so with my Will my husband acts as Executor if I die first and vice versa. In the event that we both die within a short time of each other eg in a car crash or similar then we have chosen someone in the UK to act as Executor. We have told him to bring his wife along too and claim the trip to Cyprus from our Estate as part of his expenses for carrying out the service on our behalf.
