'Remote' property

Postby the animal lady » 25 Jan 2016 09:11

I am about to sign up to have a 3kw net metering system installed on my property and I understand that if I live in a remote area than the vat rate is reduced to 5% so I wonder what the official definition of remote is. I have no address except 8546 Letymbou, no street lighting, my water supply comes across fields in irrigation pipe and Cyta want to charge me in excess of €9000 to connect me. Can you clarify for me please.
Thank you in anticipation.

Hi animal lady

I don't know the official definition of 'remote'.

I friend of mine lives in a remote location and rather than paying thousands to install a fixed line telephone, CYTA supplied him with a mobile phone system. I don't have any details but if you ask in any CYTA shop they should be able to advise you.

I have what is called a "Limited Roaming" phone from Cyta and pay the same rates as if it were a landline. It only operates from the nearest mobile antenna to our place though we can use it in a radius of about 4 Kilometres from the house. I'm not sure what the definition is of remote; I wouldn't say our place was remote, we also have no street lighting, proper road name and the water comes along a pipe down a concrete track, maybe out of the way is a more realistic description,

Thanks Jim

That sounds very similar to my friend's system. He can use his phone out of area and I guess CYTA charges him the mobile phone rates when he does?

Hi Nigel

Ours will work from Armou down to the main roundabout at the end of the Motorway and then switches off. I would much prefer a Landline for Internet purposes but as Animal Lady said Cyta want several thousand Euro's off us to provide one.

Another option for remote locations and where mobile phone signal reception is poor is to install a GSM booster.

These work both on incoming and outgoing signal.

Prices for good quality units are around £100.00 and up depending on your needs.

Feel free to message me via a pm if you'd like more info.
