Old sugar or salt warehouse in Coral Bay, or is it, anyone know what this was?

Jim - not much in answering your question, but there is a very similar building by Kyrenia Beach. I always wondered what that was.

It does appear to have a similar build and style to the old sugar mill which is just in front of Kolossi Castle, here in Limassol too.

The building has over one door an Ecclesiastical stone carving on the arch.

Like the indoor fig tree that is full of small figs.

I used to swim at this little beach 25 years ago when there was nothing there except these warehouses. I was taken there by a Cypriot and was told then that they were carob stores.

There is similar building at the beach in Avdimou, I thought I was informed that it was an old Carob store, which it could be as Anoyira is a Carob growing region.

The stone work is a lovely mellow colour, great to see that they are still standing .

I think "harubi" means carob in Greek.

Was it? it is an internal fig tree house now, Not sure why it has not been preserved better, maybe renovated, would make a great cafe or restaurant..

Similar to the original (pre fire) Porto Latchi restaurant building, lots of them dotted around if you look I'm sure.

There is a wonderful example by the shore, in the village of Yialousa, in the old fishermen's harbour, on the Karpas peninsular. I seem to remember that there may be one near Pyrgos, Tylliria. The warehouse at Pissouri jetty is a private house.
