Did you miss me?

Postby juliesewell » 05 May 2016 19:08

Well here we are - a week and a day into our new home, albeit no furniture to speak of yet as the container won't arrive until next week and no landline or internet until next week either.

We've had some cold and sunny days plus a couple of wet ones but it's picked up over the last couple of days.

A few photos from our walk along the back of the golf course above the river Wyre yesterday and back past Hackensall Hall and home again in glorious sunshine:

Thanks all - hard to believe we've been here 2 weeks on Wednesday!

Broadband should be connected sometime tomorrow..... so I shall be back online with a passion very soon.
Container arrives on Thursday and Jim, there will be no lawnmower in there - the grass will disappear once we have other things under control. Neither of us can be doing with lawns, especially with 2 doggies and muddy feet. In the back garden is another grassed area and a pond - both of which will also be a thing of the past.

Dogs are settling in nicely but will be much happier when the sofas arrive on Thursday (as long as the removal guys can get them into the house). We believe we may need to remove a window or two!

The weather is beautiful at the moment and we've walked up to the local Working Men's Club in our T-shirts. Just seen a lady pass through wearing shorts but we're not quite that brave just yet.

Yesterday we walked along The Esplanade and all along the seashore as far as Pilling and worked our way back to Knott End. Another lovely day and as we had no bus available to us it meant a trip out with the camera.

Photos will follow in spits and spats once we've caught up with news from our Cyprus friends....

Thanks Brenda :)

Internet/Broadband has been connected today so catching up with stuff I haven't been able to do at the local pub etc....

An update to the "lawn" issue (front and back), we had a "trade off" it seems yesterday with one of our retired neighbours at our end of the cul de sac. He came to us asking about the Mistletoe bush we have growing on our apple tree in the back garden as he wanted to take some of the berries and a cutting to graft it to his apple tree. Not being fruit growers we were unaware that Mistletoe stops all kinds of fungus and parasites from attacking the apple tree.

So, he took what he wanted from the bush and came back later with his petrol strimmer and chopped down the grass to an acceptable level.

We have 2 lovely neighbours who are attached by the carport and so far have helped us with the loan of a TV with freeview, a couple of garden chairs and moving a monster of a fridge freezer into our utility room at the back of the house. We're lucky also in that they're very similar in age to us so have a similar outlook.

We've met some of the other neighbours to say "hello" and have warned them of the arrival of our container on Thursday which will take up most of the cul de sac and put the cat amongst the pigeons for a number of "white van men" who have been clogging it up since November whilst working on a property a few doors down that looks like it's having a total rebuild rather than the 2 x dormers that were on the planning permissions.... can't wait to see how all that will pan out in the end but it's caused a rumpus with the guy who lives next to it. They could have knocked it down and built it all over again in the time it's taken them to make the changes. Four vans and hardly any work takes place from day to day :-s
