Well it's the time of year! Actually, I think that the last few days have been quite pleasant, with cooler temperatures at night. But personally, I will be glad when August is over... I hope that it won't become unbearably hot and humid!

Dee lets get July out of the way first, this heat is not just the time of the year, this heat has been going on for months now and no sign of any change, this is without doubt the warmest driest summer season and preseason, that I can remember..

You are right Jim, it is very dry this year with only 17MCM inflow to the dams since
last Oct, if it is not raining proper next season Cyprus will have another water problem
like 2008.
Interesting table showing the figures....

Yes, with the drought which we are experiencing now which was exacerbated by very low rainfall last winter, the Asprokremnos Dam is currently 53.8% full. Ths dam supplies much of Paphos. We do need to be careful with our use of water to avoid the need for water rationing later. Actually, Paphos is better off being on the west coast which usually has more rainfall than the south and east coasts. With a lower population density and more reservoirs, our situation is more encouraging. The Kouris dam, the largest reservoir on the island, is now only 18% full. No wonder that the government has need of the desalination plants now to supply water to the south and east, plus Nicosia.

The irony if this situation is that the undersea water pipeline from Turkey to N. Cyprus is now operational and is supplying the north of the island. Previously, they have offered to supply water to the south of the island, but with the political situation the way it currently is their offer has not as yet been taken up...

The temp here (Mosfiloti) at 11.49 is lowish at 32.6°C but the 53% humidity makes it feel like 36.4°C.

Our forecast at 09:00 gives us a max of 34°C with a heat index of 37°C ( http://weather.bnellis.eu/forecast/ ) but you can see updates every 3 h at 30 min past the hour (the time taken to do the calculations). The current synopsis is shown below.

LOL, summer in UK....

Whew #:-s it was that hot the other night, I couldn't sleep - even with the windows open! So damn hot, I had to roll the 10.5 tog duvet down at least 6 inches so I could get some cool air onto my shoulders ;)

Still waiting for "summer" to start properly here. It keeps chucking the odd glorious day at us then it sort of fades away with iffy days in between....

Looked at my weather app yesterday and today was to be okay then pretty crap until Sunday of next week. Got up this morning and Tuesday had changed its' mind and decided to show us a bit of sunshine. Just checked it again now and - nope, we have showers or rain predicted until next Sunday with temperatures anywhere between 18 - 20 Celsius.

My mum always said nobody could predict the weather for our neck of the woods - it seems she is right! Because it changes consistently from day to day....

The articles in the Daily hate, plus a number of other news media cropped up today on Facebook warning visitors to Cyprus to be extra careful as temps were recorded at Nicosia at 57c....but it's dated August 2015....all the articles are...

My fears realised..... This girl also requested her pizza be cut into 8 slices as she couldn't eat 12, and she had my future in her hands.
We are here for such a short time.....only regret things you didn't do. Be kind and be happy :)

We did at least manage to get up to Knott End jetty yesterday in between showers to watch the activity on the Wyre estuary as it was Fleetwood Lifeboat's Open Day.

I was happy with the photos as it was a bit breezy... if you wish, you can click through any of the photos to the original image and click again on the individual photo to zoom in.

The local coastguard station does organised walks out to the Wyre Light at certain times of the year (depending on Tide Times, of course). It's a good 2 miles distant from the shore at Fleetwood and the whole area is plagued by quicksand and deep worn tidal channels.
Some info about the old Wyre Light lighthouse here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyre_Light_(Fleetwood)
