Online shopping

Postby harare1967 » 28 Dec 2012 12:42

I just want to find out if anyone has shopped on line with The Hut.com? (They do free delivery to U.k & Europe). I want to order a vaccum cleaner from there website & I want to know if anyone had any problems with them? Thanks :P

Says it all really, doesn't it? That's the good thing about the internet - poor product and service providers have nowhere to hide.

as someone says on the Hot Uk Deals website thread about this firm..if you have to use (them) use PayPal.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/reviews/thehut.com

personally speaking I have used them in UK..a bit slow sometimes but never had a big problem.

Problem with on line shopping to Cyprus is the postal system, it is very poor and badly run with at times long waits for parcels..

I agree about Amazon used them just before Christmas for a new Nokia Lumia, it was delivered in reasonable time, BUT the postal service here can be dire! Lets online buying in Cy a frustrating wait at times.

I think I must be extremely lucky as (touch wood!) in 8 years I can't recall anything getting lost or failing to be delivered!

Agree Play.com are good!

Hi,

just had a look at Play.com as free delivery to Cyprus seems too good to be true.

Had a look at the Samsung 40" smart tv.

If you want this delivered to a UK address it will cost you £529.59. But if you want it delivered to an address outside the UK, you can't pay in sterling, you have to pay in euros - at Play.com's exchange rate - delivery to Cyprus will cost 716.49 euro.

Using an exchange rate of 1.23 euro to £1, £529.59 converts into 651 euro. This means that delivery to Cyprus is not "free" but is actually costing a massive 65 euro.

Still ... 716 euro may be cheaper than sourcing the tv locally?

I had thought of buying this way the last time I purchased a large screen TV and did look on Amazon for a LG42, but having had some experience sending back to the UK a heavy electronic item I thought better of it, the cost for a returns cost more than the DVD recorder to buy in the first instance, can you imagine the cost of a heavy TV?

Really the fact that you have a local warranty, and considering the cost here now, buying a TV on line really does not make economical sense I feel.

I think people need to shop around a bit more locally before resorting to on-line shopping. Prices here are not as ridiculous as they used to be, plus if you ask, there's usually a discount to be had. Another plus point is that should it need servicing, the local shops are far more convenient and quicker at resolving things. If it's electrical, there's the 2 year warranty.

I took a 470 Euro Smart phone back to the shop in the old town the other day where I bought it seven months ago; everything works except there is no ring on incoming calls. First he accused me of dropping it and then suggested there was a part missing from the top speaker (which is working fine) After the usual arguement he took it off me and said he would have it looked at. No wonder I buy as little as possible in Cyprus, nothing is straight forward and I can't think of one item I've had satifactorily repaired here and it usually ends up cheaper to buy a replacement than get things repaired.

Mike you are a bit late replying , harare1967 posted the question in 2012 , don't think he/she visits CL any more .

But your info might be useful to some people .
