Baked beans in paps

Postby murraya » 21 Nov 2016 12:18

I don't normally write posts but do follow advise and topics. In Paps today the main one by the lights in town, my wife and I were shopping , I tend to just wander off, on their special offers is Heinz baked beans pack of 4 with a 2e off sticker on each pack. I thought ok I like this product walked over to were they keep the normal tins and there was the same product for 4.99e, same size, assuming now that I am paying 2.99e. Being a bit suspicious I asked the cashier on checkout what the price was, 3.60e!
I questioned this and with the supervisor and the cashier we went over to show her the 4.99e price, they checked the size etc and then informed me the code is different. I explained I don't know their coding and was not about to check codes when buying a product. Warning the outcome is their code for the product was 5.60e with a 2e off, but also selling the same product on another isle at 4.99e. Now I agree the product is cheaper on special offers but not the 2e off it states. A bit misleading I thought and declined the purchase as they would not admit to the offer being incorrect. Just worth checking their offers are true and the product has not been increased first. I think there is a law about that but life's too short to be concerned about baked beans!

I never look at the discount just the bottom line. 50% off an item of clothing that brings it down to whats it's actually worth rather than the inflated retail price is no interest to me.

I agree that Paps are pulling a fast one with the 2 Euro off sign. However at the end of the day 3.60 is a discount from what I believe to be the usual price elsewhere of approx 4.00 Euro.

I once bought a tin of Christmas biscuits in UK for 4 pounds. Saw the very same item on my return to Cyprus. After 25% discount approx 8 pounds.

Buyer Beware!

I wouldn't buy Heinz beans anyway. Too much sugar in them and the local tins are just as good and much cheaper.

This is common practice here. Always xcheck the price per tin. Go to Alpha Mega and look at the Tesco products, many have 1.00 GBP printed on the box, most time covered with an adhesive sticker; the price somewhere around the 2.40 Euro mark. Before someone chimes in about transport etc., remember the cost price to Tesco is probably about 50p! Bulk transport doesn't add that much to a container load.

I saw a program recently on Baked Beans, Heinz in fact, do you know they are cooked in their cans, amazing automated process.

They "can" many thousands of baked beans on a 24 hour 7 day a week shift!

Yes, you do have to watch Paps special offer prices! If I see one which interests me, I always check with a cashier as to what I think the special offer price of the item actually is and is what they will charge. Years ago I got caught out with one of their special offers on local honey. The special offer which was shown on a special notice attached to the shelf in this case did not refer to the honey which was on the shelf above it which was actually much more expensive. But the only way to know that was to check the code on the individual pot was the same as that shown on their special offer notice...! The honey with the cheaper special offer price was actually to the left of the notice!
